Premiers at Estonia National Opera
The national opera house presents performances throughout the autumn, winter and spring season. Opera JULIUS CAESAR Premiere: January 27 Handel is one of the greatest composers of the late baroque period and Julius Caesar tells the story of history’s most famous war and love affair in a rich musical and emotional language. Music Director and Conductor: Andres Mustonen Concert performance NORMA Premier: February 11 Vincenzo Bellini’s Norma is one of the most popular work of the Romantic era, since each generation has discovered it afresh. “If I were shipwrecked,”Bellini wrote to a friend, “I would leave all of my other operas and try to save Norma.” Conductor Alberto Hold-Garrido (Spain) Dance performance GOD STUDIES. AFTER THE WORLD Time: February 28 “God Studies” is Roosna’s and Flak’s interpretation of ancient classical mythology. A world in which morality is ambiguous and gods and heroes can be cruel and vindictive. Choreographer: Kenneth Flak (Norway) Performance: Külli Roosna and Kenneth Flak Music: Yann Coppier (Norway) In the production “After the World” dancers create new meanings, structures and thoughts where the old world stands in ruins. Choreographers: Külli Roosna and Kenneth Flak Music: Kenneth Flak WOMEN’S DAY CONCERT Time: March 8 at Tallinn Town Hall On a beautiful spring day classical melodies are sung by the soloists of the Estonian National Opera Chorus. Musical MAN OF LA MANCHA Premiere: March 22 Mitch Leigh’s musical Man of La Mancha is a sparkling amalgam of romance, adventure, humour and tragedy based on Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra’s novel Don Quixote, the comic tragedy of mankind’s struggle to better both himself and the world in which he lives. Music Director and Conductor: Jüri Alperten Conductor: Mihhail Gerts SPRING CONCERT OF THE ESTONIAN NATIONAL OPERA CHORUS Time: April 3 and 24 Soloists of the Estonian National Opera Chorus perform well-known melodies in the Winter Garden of the opera house. Concert performance LASER HARP Premiere: April 4 The soloists of the Estonian National Opera will perform popular pieces from opera and ballet repertoire, the performance will be an extravaganza of dry ice and pyrotechnics. Conductor: Jüri Alperten Ballet OTHELLO. TIME Time: April 14 and 19 Marina Kesler’s ballet is inspired times – William Shakespeare’s timeless tragedy Othello. Tiit Helimets will stage a ballet about TIME that will make people think about how they use their TIME set to music by Arvo Pärt. ESTONIAN NATIONAL OPERA’S SYMPHONY CONCERT Time: April 19 J. Brahms – Violin Concerto in D major and Symphony No. 1 in C minor R. Eespere – “Glorietur” for soloists, male choir and symphony orchestra INTERNATIONAL DANCE DAY BALLET GALA Time: April 28 Estonian National Ballet pays reverence to the International Dance Day giving a ballet gala with a programme ranging from classical ballet to contemporary dance. Artistic Director: Thomas Edur Ballet MODIGLIANI – THE CURSED ARTIST World première: May 11 The ballet tells an exciting story of the stormy life of Amedeo Modigliani (1884–1920), one of the most famous bohemian artists of the 20th century Choreographer-Stage Director: Thomas Edur Opera FAUST Premiere: September 20 The classic story of the Faust legend is brought to life by Dmitri Bertman’s fantastic staging of one of the most famous operas of all times. Stage Director: Dmitri Bertman (Helikon-Opera, Moscow) Ballet CINDERELLA Premiere: November 9 Marina Kesler brings this magical fairy tale to life in legendary 20th Century composer Prokofiev's ballet.
