MY TALLINN
City that never stays still
Once upon a time Tallinn or Reval as it was called then was a mighty seaside trading centre of Hanseatic League. But as many sought after the riches of Tallinn’s seashore the breeze loving locals were banned from the seaside for decades to come. Foreign merchants made fortunes from across the sea routes, while the locals living on the shore had little freedom of movement.
Today, touring the city is an adventure in itself. Whether you're walking, or cycling, you'll pass through curious, winding streets, each with its own secrets. Here are some family friendly things worth while doing in Tallinn.
Old Town is dotted with green areas. Especially child friendly is the Towers' Square relaxing area with its large playground and traffic free park area. Hirvepark (Deer park), Komandandi aed (Commander's garden), Snelli park and the Kultuurikilomeeter (Culture Kilometre) are also virtually car free areas just a short walk from the Town Hall Square. Kadriorg park has great play areas and the children’s museum Miia-Milla-Manda which makes this area perfect with every weather. Pirita promenade leading to Pirita beach however is perfect for long strolls along the sandy seashore with great views of the central city.
In summer time make the most of Tallinn’s five public beaches, which all have playgrounds and all the necessary services (June-August).
